Five Great Ways to Reuse Old Saris

Indian fabrics are always known for its richness and color and one such item that creates magic is the ‘magnificent sari,’  Saris can not only be worn in different forms but also used for a variety of purposes from scarves to home furnishings – name it and it’s there!
Here are five ravishing ways on how saris can be re purposed or recycled – with little or no sewing!

As Gift Wrappers:

Save Mother Earth!  It is said that millions of papers, plastic and shopping bags are literally thrown away during holiday seasons.  Why don’t we do our bit to save our planet? Well, here is a solution – old saris as gift wrappers.  It’s not only unique but Eco-friendly too.  Trust me, you’ll love it !

As Cushions and Curtains:

You don’t need any expensive furniture or fixings – these cushions, drapes and curtains made out of old saris can instantly lift up an otherwise boring room. A basic knowledge on sewing is enough to make cushions or draperies and curtains. If not, you can always get the help of a seamstress to get it done.

As Scarves:

This is one of my personal favorite. Chiffon Saris have a wonderful fall and they are great to make some trendy scarves.  A single sari can be used to make several scarves. These can be given as gift to your friends or perhaps as some humble gifts for the girls in the orphanages.

As Wall Art:

Saris make amazing wall art.  Take the most attractive part of the sari and frame it – tada, you have a beautiful wall art. It appears like it’s worth a million dollars but it’s quite easy on the pocket.

As Bedding:

Saris used in the following methods are a great way to personalize your bed.  A little bit of creativity in draping is suffice to bring in the warmth to the bedroom.  And, what’s more is that it doesn’t require any sewing.

  1. Use of old sarees as "Cushions and Curtains" is quite popular and old one. One can easily notice curtains are made with sarees and many a times increase the beauty of your interior, if saree selection is correct.
